OWH Sketch Challenge #71

I am really loving this image. I actually printed off several on vellum and used one for a graduation card, but my intent all along was to use it for this sketch. Please see previous post if you are interested in any of the details. I am going to make two more of these for OWH and I may change the ribbon color to charcoal. I was lucky enough to have a sheet of Bo-Bunny Press Summer Cottage Mist in my stash. I was looking for paper that evoked the same mood as the digistamp. The ivory is Making Memories Passport.

I loved the blog hop; it just took me longer than I had planned. I think I added at least 5 or more site to those that I am already following. Like I really needed any more sites to try to keep up on.

OTWC Challenge #54

I told you I loved these colors together. I needed a graduation card for this last party...This is my fourth for the month...That is a record! I had saved this digistamp that I had gotten off of http://freedigitalstamps.blogspot.com/ where I linked up here http://danasinspirations.blogspot.com/2011/05/few-freebies-and-new-time-drain.html. Hot air balloons are at the top of the trends list so I feel as if I scored a special treasure! I recolored the image and created the sentiment (Bleeding Cowboys) in MSPublisher. I reverse punched around the sentiment. To "pop" out the balloon I hand embossed the vellum on the reverse side which made it whiter. I added the button with the ribbon because it just needed a little something else. I will be linking to OTWC later this week.

OTWC Challenge #54

I decided needed to take a break from hopping and make a card. It have been more than 10 years since I did any embossing so I thought it was time to try it again. I have to say I love this color combo, especially the chocolate brown. (YES I "heart" chocolate!) I could not decide on a sentiment, so I chose to go without. The image is CTMH and I used all scrap papers. My one "do over" would be to add a layer of the blue between the two browns. It looks okay when I look at the actual card, but the picture is trying to tell me something else. The bow was made using a fork. Have a great and safe weekend!

OWH MWT Challenge

This week’s challenge is “Try A New Technique”. We’re challenging you to make cards for our heroes to send home to their loved ones that use a technique you’d like to try but haven’t yet.

Well I thought I read on Facebook that they lots of pinwheel cards so I decided to go for the ruffle technique as I did get the tie card made and linked up before it closed.

I grabbed the first mini pack I found which was the DCWV Green Stack. I also have coordinating chipboard, but they were not purchased at the same time. I think that bird is cute and goofy. The yellows and the green are from my scrap stash. Not sure why I felt the need to flip it on it's side except that it worked better for me visually. I do really like the challenges, even without the candy, because it really seems to get me thinking and creating outside the box.

Ted's Happily Ever Crafter

I saw that an OWHer had made a card for a challenge on Ted's Happily Crafter. The challenge is based on the OWH logo; how cool is that?! I thought about going with a patriotic sentiment/image but then I looked through my vellum quote pad and found this. Vellum is hard to attach without the adhesive showing though so I came up with the brad idea, plus they add a little "pop". All the paper was in my scrap stash which makes me happy!

To visit Ted's blog, please go here: http://www.happilyevercrafter.com/2011/04/happily-ever-challenged-17-we-salute.html.
The deadline is Friday, May 27, 2011 by around 3:00 PM PST. I am thinking this will snowball big for Ted and OWH.

OWH Sketch Challenge #70

I have been wanting to fussy cut out clouds for a card--They are just too dang cute and I see them all around blogland. This was the perfect sketch for them. If I could have one do-over on this card it would be the sentiment; it is way to spread out, but it was the last thing I did and I cannot take it back. All the papers were from DCWV Flower Shower Sprint Matstack. I am not sure of the stamps except "my sunshine" is CTMH.

Graduate Card

Recently I helped a friend make a short scrapbook for her niece who is graduating. We spent 4 fun fun Saturdays putting pages together. It was very interesting putting her vision of each page together. We scrapped at my house and dug into my stash when needed. One time she "snuck" a tiny sticker onto a page. She did not think I would notice. Ha, ha, ha...I notice waaaaay too much. I explained what sticker sneeze was and we did a little extra work to make it not such a "sneeze".

This card is for her niece, who I feel I know so much better through the scrapbook. The party is tonight and I have waited til the last minute--almost. Used my new Martha Stewart border punch. I bought it because it is not so "girly"; more universal. Stamp was purchased at Michaels. I started with the blue because it is one of her school colors, but when I found the double-sided piece of scrap that coordinated I went with the new direction. Do you ever end up taking a different path than you intended, just because it feels right?

OTWC Challenge #53

I went strictly CAS for this card. Had a colleague pass away and need a card to send to the family. The word says it all. He will be missed!

On a brighter note I love the colors in this challenge! The digistamp is a freebie by TLC Creations. The link is http://createwithtlc-createwithtlc.blogspot.com/tlc4lo@ca.rr.com. The base paper is from DCWV The Christmas Combo. I am now caught up on all of my challenges until Sunday. A big woohoo!

OWH MWT Summer Fun

When I think of summer, I think of the 4th of July, baseball, swimming, grilling, and fishing. I had recently purchased this great pack of Americana borders made by K&Company. When I decided upon the bunting border, I knew what I wanted to do. I used the "celebrate" and "fireworks" from Creative Cafe and made up my own "day from Studio G dittos. Adding the hemp was the hardest part of putting it together, but it adds so much.

Necktie Card

This card is my first attempt at this. Yes it is fairly easy but I have 3 suggestions for myself on the next one:

1. Start with lightweight paper for the tie because of all the folds.

2. Use double sided paper for the shirt(base).

3. Trim the paper next to the collar.

I will definitely be making more of these. The tutorial can be found here: http://www.owhstarsandstamps.org/2011/05/tutorial-necktie-card.html.

The challenge this week has the theme “Things with Wings”! I am not really feeling the love for the first card; probably because I do not like to color. It is a free digistamp. I have started to save the blog name as part of the file name so I can give the creator credit. Unfortunately, I saved this one before I got that idea. The second card, which I thought about trying again has already been shipped out, but it is one of my favs. My sis says I have staples on all my scrapbook pages--not true. This is one of the very few cards I added staples to as an embellishment. These are two very different cards which do not look like they were made by the same person...definitely not a bad thing!

OWH Sketch Challenge #69

My niece's graduation party was Saturday, so I have been a little tied up with the preparations and missed a few challenges. I may try to catch up or say oh well...I have not decided yet. Yesterday, I caught the cleaning bug when I could not find my black ink pad and now on a mission to get things back in place especially my stamps. Here is my card, made from mostly scraps. Have a great week!

OWH Sketch Challenge #68

I am still focused on potential Father's Day Cards. Made this mostly from my purchased scrap pile. Lately I have been trying to minimize how much I purchase in supplies-because I realize I have so much stuff that I think I could scrap forever and never get it all used up, except of course the adhesives.

OWH MWT

The challenge this week is to make cards of appreciation for a military spouse! I have been so focused on yard work all this week, that I got a little behind on other stuff and not really feeling the card mojo thing. It did not help that I did not have an "appreciation" stamp. Sometimes I get stuck on a little thing like that; but I pulled myself out of it and designed the sentiment on my computer. I had started these two cards on Wednesday evening, but just got them finished last night. The patriotic card was made from scraps I had purchased at a scrapbook sale. I guess I did not think I had enough scraps of my own!

OWH Sketch #67

Simple sketch. I decided to break out a double-sided In My Minds Eye for this one. Punched stars out of scrap and stamped a star in the middle and inked the edges for more visual depth. When I got all that done I decided I really needed to flip my sentiment to make it all work. I really need to purchase some brown brads for the future. Have a happy Sunday!
